In the stone fabrication industry, the cost of consumables is a silent profit killer. We often hear from customers that their polishing pads "burnt out" after only 20 square meters of granite. 1. The RPM Trap: Faster is Not Always Better

Many operators believe that increasing the RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) of the grinder will speed up the job. This is the most common cause of "glazing."

The Science: When the RPM is too high, the friction heat exceeds the resin's melting point. Instead of cutting the stone, the resin smears over the diamond grits, making the pad "slippery."
The Factory Advice: For a standard 4-inch (100mm) wet pad, maintain a speed of 2,500 to 4,500 RPM. Never exceed 5,000 RPM unless the pad is specifically designed for high-speed automated machinery.

2. Grit Skipping: The Hidden Cost of "Saving Time"

We see many shops skip from Grit 200# directly to 800#, trying to save labor costs.

The Result: The 800# pad has to work three times harder to remove the deep scratches left by the 200# pad. This causes the fine-grit resin to wear down rapidly without ever achieving a mirror finish.
The Professional Sequence: Always follow the 50-100-200-400-800-1500-3000 sequence. If you want to save time, switch to a 3-Step Polishing System, which uses a higher diamond concentration and a specific hybrid bond to bridge the grit gaps.

3. Bond Hardness vs. Stone Density

Just like a suit, one size does not fit all.

Hard Stone (Granite/Quartz): Requires a soft bond resin to ensure new diamonds are constantly exposed.
