Granite Polishing Pad Test Report: 94 GU Final Gloss with KAIYI 4-Inch Wet Pads

Test Summary

Report No.: KAIYI-TR-20261014-034  |  Test Date: October 14, 2026  |  Test Location: KAIYI Factory Workshop, Quanzhou, Fujian, China

Conducted by: KAIYI Technical Team (Test Operator: Alex Chen, Senior Abrasive Technician; Technical Review & Approval: Wen Guo, Technical Lead)

Test Statement: In an internal factory test on a granite slab, KAIYI 4-inch wet diamond polishing pads (Model 34) reached 94 GU after progressive S0–S4 polishing at 2,800 RPM with continuous water cooling. This met the internal acceptance requirement of ≥85 GU. Result: PASS.

Note: This report documents an internal workshop test under stated conditions, not an independent laboratory certification. Actual jobsite results vary with stone mineral composition, initial surface roughness, water flow, machine speed, and operator technique.

Test Objective

  1. Verify the cutting and polishing performance of this 5-step pad set on hard granite.
  2. Measure final surface gloss after progressive wet polishing from S0 to S4.
  3. Check whether the polished surface shows burn marks, glazing, or unremoved scratches.
  4. Provide reference test data for B2B buyers and OEM evaluation.

Test Method

The granite slab was clamped securely on the workbench. Pads were used in sequential order without skipping steps: S0 → S1 → S2 → S3 → S4.

🎬 On-Site Test Video: Granite Wet Polishing & 94 GU Gloss Measurement

Stage Process Purpose Target Surface Condition
S0 Initial grinding / leveling Remove saw marks and establish a uniform flat base
S1 Coarse grinding Refine initial scratch pattern
S2 Medium honing Produce a smooth, uniform matte surface
S3 Pre-polishing Close stone pores and prepare surface for gloss
S4 Final polishing Develop final high-gloss finish

Continuous water was supplied through the polisher to cool the resin bond and flush slurry. After the final step, the surface was cleaned and dried before gloss measurement.

Gloss Measurement Results

Surface gloss was measured with a calibrated 60° digital gloss meter (3nh precision gloss meter) in accordance with ISO 2813 and ASTM D523 after complete surface drying following S4 final polish.

Test Coordinate Measurement Point Observed Gloss (GU) Acceptance Baseline
Point 1 Top-Left Quadrant 93.8 GU ≥ 85 GU
Point 2 Top-Right Quadrant 94.2 GU ≥ 85 GU
Point 3 Geometric Center 94.5 GU ≥ 85 GU
Point 4 Bottom-Left Quadrant 93.6 GU ≥ 85 GU
Point 5 Bottom-Right Quadrant 94.0 GU ≥ 85 GU
Average (Mean) Overall Slab Finish 94.02 GU (Reported: 94 GU) Result: PASS

Measurement detail: All five sample points consistently exceeded the ≥85 GU threshold with a standard deviation of <0.4 GU, indicating a mirror-grade, ripple-free optical surface.

Evaluation Summary

Evaluation Item Requirement Observed Result Verdict
Final gloss at S4 ≥ 85 GU 94 GU Pass
Sequential workflow No skipped stages S0 through S4 used in order Pass
Surface condition No burn marks or coarse scratches Uniform finish under test conditions Pass
Water cooling Continuous water flow Maintained throughout test Pass

Summary Verdict: PASS. The custom 5-step pad set completed the full workflow from initial grinding to final polishing on granite, reaching 94 GU under the documented conditions.

Recommended Practices for Granite Wet Polishing

  • Maintain continuous, moderate water flow to flush slurry and prevent pad glazing.
  • Operate between 2,500 and 3,200 RPM; do not exceed 4,500 RPM.
  • Apply steady, even pressure without tilting the pad edges.
  • Rinse the stone surface between steps to prevent coarse abrasive residue from carrying over.
  • Pair with a flexible rubber backer pad when polishing curved edges or sink cutouts.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What gloss level is considered high for granite?

In stone fabrication, 80–85 GU is considered standard commercial finish, while 90+ GU represents high-gloss clarity. In this test, Model 34 reached 94 GU on the tested granite slab.

Can steps be skipped to save time?

Skipping steps is not recommended. Each progressive step removes scratches from the previous pad. Skipping steps often leaves scratches that fine pads cannot remove efficiently.

What causes pad glazing on granite?

Insufficient water supply and excessive machine speed are the primary causes. Continuous water flow keeps diamond cutting edges clean and exposed.

Do you offer sample packs for testing?

Yes. Commercial sample packs can be ordered directly from our Model 34 product page, and the sample cost is credited toward your first qualifying bulk order. Custom specifications, private-label branding, and tailored resin formulations are fully supported for B2B wholesale orders.
